Hand and Wrist Pain

I'm always surprised that people don't think about chiropractic treatment for hand and wrist discomfort. It's more than neck and low back pain. We are taught to treat the spine and many other joints in the body, including the wrist and hand.

What is the most common Wrist & Hand Pain in Langley, BC that a physiotherapist is likely to take care of? One of them is overuse, or repetitive strain syndromes may manifest as elbow or hand discomfort. The typical scenario is accidents from sports, falls and landing on one's hand extended, lifting weights, or lifting heavy objects (such as the recent relocation to a different home).

It is not just repetitive activities like crocheting, knitting, or knitting as well as computer use can cause repetitive strain. Massage therapists also stand susceptible to repetitive strains due to the constant use of their hands, elbows, and forearms.

The thumb is a common area of pain. (Usually in the dominant hand) is a different typical condition that chiropractors can detect. It's usually caused by irritation of the hallicus extensor lengthy tendon. Translated to an inflammation of the tendon that runs into the thumb. It's generally in the form of chronic. Writing is challenging, and grasping objects or performing fine motor movements using the thumb could be painful.

The joint that the thumb joins with the hands is among the most frequently affected joints of the hand. It is evident how much we utilize our thumbs often. With time, there is wear and tear the joint is susceptible to degenerative or arthritic change.

The pain in the finger is evident at times. The typical scenario is that the finger does not move completely. The pain is generally not severe, but it cannot be enjoyable. I worked with a patient suffering from this type of case. He has been suffering from mild finger pain for more than 20 years. He believed there was no treatment. On a whim, He decided to inquire whether there was a solution to treat it. After one treatment, the pain was gone and hasn't recurred since.

The typical treatment method for wrist and hand discomfort is chiropractic adjustments. I utilize the activator (a handheld), which locates the joint precisely. I also use my "speeder board," the equivalent of small drop tables. It helps loosen joints that might be stuck. The work on soft tissue is beneficial to decreasing inflammation, breaking down adhesions, lessening muscle spasms, increasing the circulation to the tissues, and lastly, decreasing the discomfort. Examining the other related structures can help pinpoint the cause of the pain. The neck, shoulder, and elbow are typical suspects.
